<p>Furnace has a tubular body of refractory steel, insulated from other parts of the furnace, with its ends connected to the terminals of a current source. It pref. has two similarly heated zones in series, insulated from one another. The inlet end of the heated zone has a section of reduced wall thickness, pref. achieved by reduction of outside diameter of furnace wall. The furnace is charged by a hopper and immediately downstream of this a jacket is fitted, to which steam is supplied, condensate from this being fed to downstream end of furnace to condition its atmosphere.</p> |
