PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent ink mixed with bubbles adhered at the time of purge from being drawn into a nozzle. SOLUTION: An inkjet printer is equipped with a head unit 2 which includes both an inkjet head 5 and a buffer tank 4 with both an ink chamber 6 for storing ink and a communication valve 26, a purge mechanism 20 with a purge cap 21 for forming a closed space between an ink discharge face 40a and the cap, and a wiper for wiping the ink discharge face 40a. The action at the time of purge of the inkjet printer is carried out by an indication from a control part. First, the closed space is pressure-reduced by a pump 23 while the space is formed by the purge cap 21, and the ink is sucked from the nozzle. Second, the communication valve 26 is opened when the closed space becomes nearly an atmospheric pressure, and the purge cap 21 is isolated from the ink discharge face 40a.
