PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To easily project an image of appropriate size and shape to any projection position while simplifying a complicated setting operation. SOLUTION: The apparatus is provided with a projection system including a micromirror element 27 and a projection lens 12 for projecting/displaying in accordance with an inputted image signal, a photographing system including a photographing lens 13 for photographing the projecting direction of the projection system and a CCD 39, and a control part 35 for extracting the positions of a plurality of point marks indicating the projection range from the image obtained by the photographing system and variably setting the projection range of the projection system in accordance with the extracted positions of the point marks.
