PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a magnetostriction material by a sintered compact having high density and also having high magnetostriction value. SOLUTION: The method for producing a magnetostriction material is provided with: a stage where a molding comprising a raw material A having a composition expressed by formula (1): (Tb<SB>x</SB>Dy<SB>1-x</SB>)T<SB>y</SB>(T is at least one kind of metallic element selected from the group consisting of Fe, Ni and Co, and x and y lie in the ranges of 0.35<x≤0.5 and 1.7≤y≤2.0), a raw material B having a composition expressed by formula (2): Dy<SB>t</SB>T<SB>1-t</SB>(t lies in the range of 0.9≤t≤1.0), and a T-containing raw material C:≥7 wt% is obtained; and a stage where the molding is sintered, so as to obtain a sintered compact expressed by formula (3): (Tb<SB>v</SB>Dy<SB>1-v</SB>)T<SB>w</SB>(v and w lie in the ranges of 0.27≤v<0.5 and 1.7≤w≤2.0).
