PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming device which makes a liquid having an electroviscous effect on a medium unerringly exhibit the electroviscous effect and prevents the liquids from interfering with each other on a discharged medium and forms a desirable image free of irregularities and mixed colors. SOLUTION: A belt electrode unit 43 to hold a recording paper during printing has first electrodes 120 in which positive electrodes 124 and negative electrodes 126 having a longitudinal direction in a subsidiary scanning direction are alternately arranged. When prescribed voltage is supplied to the first electrodes 120, an electric field occurs in a main scanning direction and ink drops impacting a recording paper 20 exhibit an electroviscous effect to ensure that viscosity in the main scanning direction becomes higher than in the other direction. The unification of ink drops in the main scanning direction is avoided, and a desirable image free of streaks, blurs, and mixed colors in the subsidiary scanning direction is formed on the recording paper 20.
