PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image reading apparatus for enhancing the accuracy of detection of noises generated in images due to dust found on original platen. SOLUTION: The image reading apparatus includes three line sensors; a mobile mechanism for moving the original platen at a relative speed that is different from a relative speed between an original and the three line sensors; an inter-line correction section for synchronizing the outputs of the three line sensors with each other so that the outputs are resulted from reading the pixel at the same position of the original; NOR elements 305R, 305G, 305B and AND elements 307R, 307G, 307B for comparing pixels among three pieces of data to detect a noise pixel; a determining means for determining first data, from which the noise pixel is first detected on the basis of colors of pixels around the processing object pixel, selected from among pixels arranged in the main scanning direction; and a discrimination section 308 for invalidating a noise pixel detected from data other than the first data and included in a line, received before the line including the first data among noise pixels at the same position in the main scanning direction as the processing object pixel.
