PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an apparatus for inspecting belts for gearless drive mechanisms capable of sufficiently precisely measuring clearances (end plays) with satisfactory reproducibility. SOLUTION: The inspection apparatus for inspecting clearances of a belt (1) for gearless drive mechanisms, which is assembled by layering a large number of metal elements (3a) with prescribed clearances punched into a prescribed shape and making the layered body carried by an endless belt (2) made of metal, is provided with both a thickness gauge (11) having a thickness slightly exceeding a standard value of the clearances and a push pull gauge (12) connected to the thickness gauge. An extraction force when the thickness gauge inserted in a gap between the metal elements is extracted is read from a display value of the push pull gauge (12). End plays of the metal elements are determined on the basis of readings of the push pull gauge through the use of a previously prepared conversion table of extraction forces and end plays.
