PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a pump control mechanism capable of properly stopping the driving of a pump unit even if a position detection sensor or a pressure sensor fails. SOLUTION: This pump control mechanism comprises a pump unit 70 feeding an ink in a liquid supply source 62 to a liquid container 41 by reciprocating a bellows pump 74, the position detection sensor 78 detecting the position of the bellows pump 74 in the reciprocating motion, a position signal detection means 90 detecting position detection signals from the position detection sensor 78, a condition set means 92 setting wait conditions when the position signal detection means 90 does not detect the position signals, a determination means 90 determining whether the wait conditions are fulfilled or not when the position signal detection means 90 does not detect the position detection signals, and a drive stop means 90 stopping the driving of the drive source when the determination means 90 determines that the set wait conditions are fulfilled.
