PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a paper sheet treatment apparatus capable of easily determining maintenance/inspection work by performing operation/stop using a remote switch from the remote connection terminal of a module at the time of maintenance/inspection. SOLUTION: At the time of maintenance/inspection of the paper sheet treatment apparatus 100, the maintenance mode switch 21 of an operation panel 20 is changed over to an "ON" state being a maintenance mode and the remote switch 80 is connected to the remote connection terminal 15 of a work target module (e.g., paper sheet supply/recognition part module 10) requiring work. By this connection, the operation/stop operation of the apparatus 100 due to the operation panel 20 becomes ineffective and the operation/stop operation of the apparatus 100 due to the remote switch 80 becomes effective. When a switch B82 is pushed down in this state to set a state B and a switch A81 is pushed down to set a state E, the apparatus 100 reaches an operation state and, when the switch B82 is set to a state C or a state A, the apparatus 100 is stopped.
