PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an effective method and system for maintaining thermal stability of a permanent magnet in a magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) system. SOLUTION: The present technique provides a method for heating the permanent magnet (18) in the MRI system (10) and includes directly heating a surface of the permanent magnet (18) using a surface heater (69). The present technique also provides a system (68) for heating the permanent magnet (18) in the MRI system.
