The meat-fat ratio is determined in a closed circuit (4) by means of biological impedance measurement and analysis. The separated contacts (6, 7) are static and are connected independently to two different body parts (jaw and foot/claws, respectively) and connected to the circuit for the determination. The contacts are arranged respectively at the feeding plant (12) and base (14). An independent claim is also included for a device for measuring the body mass composition of pigs by using the above method.
