摘要 <P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a glass substrate carrier which is especially useful in the case of manufacturing a magnetic disk for floating and moving a magnetic head at a small floating height of at most 10 nm, a method for manufacturing a glass substrate for a magnetic disk utilizing the same glass substrate carrier, and a method for manufacturing a magnetic disk utilizing the same glass substrate. <P>SOLUTION: The glass substrate carrier comprises a glass substrate holding portion 41 which has holding holes 41a for holding glass substrates therein and has a disk-like shape as a whole, a gear portion 42 provided along the outside periphery of the glass substrate holding portion, and engagement portions 41b, 42b for engaging the glass substrate holding portion with the gear portion. Glass substrates are held within the range inside the circle having a radius of the engagement portions nearest to an origin that is the center of the glass substrate holding portion. The glass substrate for the magnetic disk is manufactured by holding the glass substrate in the glass substrate carrier and by mirror-polishing the surface of the glass substrate by relatively moving the glass substrate and polishing cloth while bringing them into contact with each other.
