O-subst cyclic hydroxamic compounds - with antiallergic and antidepressant activity

Title cpds of formula (I): (where R1 is not >4C alkyl, cyclohexyl, or phenyl (is not >C alkyl), A is 2-4C alkylene, X is H, halogen or is not >4C alkyl, and Y is O, S, SO2 or NR in which R is H or is not >4C alkyl) and their pharmaceutically acceptable acid addn salts are prepared by hydrolysing cpds of formula (II) which is as (I) with -NHR1 replaced by -N(R1)COR2 (where R2 is H or is not >4C alkyl) e.g. with acid or alkali in an aqs-org. solvent pref. at 20-100 degrees C.
