PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image recorder in which the image quality of an image being recorded on a recording medium can be made to be recognized under proper state by a user. SOLUTION: An encoding section 3 adds an SCR calculated based on the count of STC at that time to encoded image data. A storage section 7 stores the count of STC at that time in correspondence with the input image data of an input image. A decode section 5 inputs reproduction image data obtained by decoding the encoded image data to a recognition image output section 9. An input image take-out section 8 determines the value of STC attached to the encoded image data and used for calculating the SCR, and then takes out an input image attached with the value thus determined from the storage section 7. The recognition image output section 9 forms a recognition image by combining two images, i.e. a reproduction image based on the reproduction image data decoded at the decoding section 5 and the input image taken out from the storage section 7, and outputs the recognition image thus formed.
