PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To accurately detect the position of a tape trailing end on a feed side reel without requiring complicated adjustment work, etc. SOLUTION: As to a remaining tape amount detector for detecting the remaining tape amount of an electrically insulating tape S wound on the feed side reel 101, at least the peripheral surface of a core 101a of the reel 101 is made conductive while bringing an inspection electrode 103 impressed with a prescribed voltage by an electric current detector 104 into contact with the insulating tape S existing on the core 101a of the reel 101. When a trailing end Se of the insulating tape S comes off the electrode 103, the electrode 103 makes contact with the core 101 to cause an electric current to flow therebetween, thereby detecting the trailing end Se of the insulating tape S.
