PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a magnetic recording medium wherein particle size fineness and vertical orientation of a vertical magnetic recording film are both realized, recording and reproducing characteristics are improved, and higher density of information is realized. SOLUTION: The magnetic recording medium has at least a backing layer 2, a base film 3, an intermediate layer 4, and the vertical magnetic recording film 5 on a non-magnetic substrate 1.
