PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fiber assembly containing a nanofiber higher water-absorbing properties (water absorption ratio and water absorption rate) than those of a conventional product and to provide a method for producing the fiber assembly. SOLUTION: The fiber assembly comprises a nanofiber composed of an organic polymer and having 1-500 nm number-average single fiber diameter and the fiber assembly has 0.02-0.9 g/cm<SP>3</SP>density and simultaneously satisfies characteristics of (a) 400-2,000% water absorption ratio and (b)≤2 second water absorption rate. The method for producing the fiber assembly comprises at least (I) a polymer alloy fiber-producing step, (II) a fiber assembly-producing step and (III) a nanofiber-forming step.
