The present invention relates to a method of forming a membrane comprising stacked lipid layers on a support. According to the present invention, the lipid layers are applied on the support by means of spraying, after which a heat treatment is performed in absence of contact with an aqueous solution. The present invention allows forming a more homogeneous lipid membrane (formed by stacked lipid layers of lamellae) on the support. The invention also relates to a support provided with a lipid membrane, which in essence is free of holes, as well as applications for such a membrane.
