<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for melting iron scrap by which a large quantity of iron scraps can be melted without prolonging a treating time. <P>SOLUTION: In this method for melting pressed scraps of the iron scraps as the iron source, a carbon source is pre-mixed into the inner part of the pressed scraps before melting, and the pressed scraps, in which the carbon source is mixed thereinto, are melted. In this case, the carbon source is added at the time of pressing the iron scraps to mix the carbon source in the inner part of the pressed scraps. The mixing quantity of the carbon source into the pressed scraps is defined as the range of 0.005-0.15 as a mixing ratio of the pure carbon mass in the carbon source to the iron scrap mass (pure carbon mass in the carbon source/iron scrap mass).
