PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical transmitter with which a thermal tracking error can be compensated. SOLUTION: A temperature detecting element 19 is connected to a thermo-sensitive device 17 so as to generate a first temperature signal V<SB>TH</SB>corresponding to the temperature of a laser diode 13. A correction signal generator 21 generates a compensatory signal V<SB>CORR</SB>from information including thermal tracking error compensation quantity corresponding to a second temperature signal V<SB>AMB</SB>according to ambient temperature T<SB>AMB</SB>. A reference signal generator 23 generates a reference signal V<SB>ADJ</SB>for displaying the difference between the compensatory signal V<SB>CORR</SB>and the target signal V<SB>REF0</SB>which shows the light wavelength (LAMBDA0) that the laser diode 13 should generate including a circuit 35 which generates the second temperature signal V<SB>AMB</SB>. A control circuit 25 generates a driving signal V<SB>D</SB>for driving thermoelement 14 corresponding to the reference signal V<SB>ADJ</SB>and the first temperature signal V<SB>TH</SB>.
