PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce friction more than a case in which a rotating energization force by a lost motion device is set constant while securely pressing a cam input part against a cam. SOLUTION: An acting angle variable mechanism 33 transmits the rotation of an intake cam 24 to an input arm 38 through a cam input part to swing the arm 38 and opens an intake valve 21 against a valve spring 23 by an output arm 39 swung in association with the input arm 38. The acting angle of the intake cam 24 is changed by changing a relative phase difference between input/output arms 38 and 39 in the swing direction. The lost motion device 55 presses the cam input part against the intake cam 24 by rotatingly energizing the input arm 38 in the reverse direction of the swing direction of the input arm 38 by the intake cam 24. Also, in an area specified by the acting angle, a rotating energizing force by the lost motion device 55 is reduced in an area where the acting angle is large less than that in an area where the acting angle is small.
