PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a suction pad for a suction holding device, which suction pad can furthermore surely suck and hold uneven objects than before, and further to provide a suction holding device having the same suction pad. SOLUTION: The suction pad for the suction holding device sucks and holds the object by a suction force generated by sucking air. The suction pad is made of a shrinkable material forming an internal space having two openings. The end face of the shrinkable material around one of the openings is brought into tight contact with the wall surface of the object to be sucked and held, and then the object is sucked and held by the end face of the shrinkable material around one of the openings owing to the negative pressure generated in the internal space by sucking the air from the internal space via the other opening. A plurality of grooves elongating from the atmosphere side toward the internal space are formed around the one of the openings of the shrinkable material such that two neighboring grooves do not overlap each other in the direction from the atmosphere toward the internal space.
