PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an empty container volume-reducing/collecting machine capable of preventing a glass bottle from being fed into a rubber-made press roller while maintaining advantages of compactness and low price. SOLUTION: The inside of a feed-in port 3 of the empty container volume-reducing/collecting machine 1 forms a feed-in space 14 formed obliquely with respect to the entire casing 2. An empty container fed in by opening an opening/closing lid 4 is once stopped here. Since an empty aluminum can, steel can, PET bottle or the like is light in weight and can be retained on the only one coil spring 13 stretched at the center of an opened bottom surface of the feed-in space 14. A glass bottle is heavy, and the coil spring 13 is deflected, and the glass bottle is dropped down immediately therebelow. When the opening/closing lid 4 is closed, the empty container slips into a press unit 15, and at the same time an electric motor 16 having a reduction gear is operated. A pair of upper and lower press rollers are rotated symmetrically in the right-to-left direction, and the empty container is squeezed to reduce the volume thereof. The volume-reduced empty containers PC, PP are dropped from a bottom of the press unit as shown by an arrow, in Fig., and stored in a volume-reduced container collection box 12.
