PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for coating a water-based coating material which can form a coating film with high designability free from metallic unevenness. SOLUTION: This coating method for coating the water-based coating material containing a flaky glitter pigment comprises the steps of coating a water-based coating material (A1) having a solid content of 20 to 40 wt.% in the coating material on an object in a thickness of 1 to 15μm in terms of dry film thickness and coating a water-based coating material (A2) having a solid content of 2 to 15 wt.% in the coating material on the uncured coating film in a thickness of 0.1 to 5μm in terms of dry film thickness.
