PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a pattern forming method which enables the acquisition of a new aesthetic property different from the conventional ones. SOLUTION: The pattern forming method is characterized by applying an aqueous coloring paint of which the viscosity is from 0.1 Pa s or more to 5.0 Pa s or less on the surface of a substrate layer of which the contact angle to water is from 90°or more to 140°or less and covering 10% or more to 90% or less of the whole surface of the substrate layer with the aqueous coloring paint.
