PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a charging apparatus which brings a charging current close to its target value more quickly, and which controls a charging current so as to hold it appropriately at the target value once the current reaches the target value. SOLUTION: This charging apparatus 1 for charging a secondary cell 2 at a constant current includes: a power source circuit 10 for supplying the charging current to the secondary cell 2; a charging current measurement section 36 for measuring the charging current which flows from the power circuit 10 into the secondary cell 2; a target current setting section 32 for setting the target value of the charging current; and a constant current control section 34 for controlling the charging current of the power circuit 10 so that a variation rate per unit time becomes a first variation rate, when a difference between the charging current measured by the charging current measurement section 36 and the target value set by the target current setting section 32 exceeds a range from the target value to a first predetermined value, and for controlling the charging current of the power source circuit 10 so that the variation rate per unit time becomes a second variation rate which is smaller than the first variation rate, when the difference is in the range from the target value to the first predetermined value.
