PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a dispersion type electroluminescent element having excellent emission luminance and excellent durability and having an improved service life; and to provide a dispersion type electroluminescent element capable of increasing the size of a screen, having excellent emission luminance and excellent durability and having an improved service life. SOLUTION: In relation to an electroluminescent element including a luminescent particle-containing layer formed by dispersing luminescent particles in an organic binder between a pair of facing electrodes at least one of which is a transparent electrode, this dispersion type electroluminescent element has at least one intermediate layer without substantially contributing to luminescence between the transparent electrode and the luminescent particle-containing layer, wherein the intermediate layer contains an organic polymer compound having a softening point above 140°C as a binder.
