<p>Stable decorated panels consists of (a) a base panel formed from an acrylic deriv. (b) decoration by coloured pigments in a varnish medium, and (c) a protective coating for the decoration formed by casting in a mould closed to air, a previously prepared mixture composed of a prepolymerised acrylic monomer and an intimately dispersed polymerisation catalyst. The pigments are inert to the monomer mixture, and pref. the varnish is permeable to and copolymerisable with the monomer. The pigments may be fluorescent phosphorescent, reflective, metallised or contain microspheres. The coating may be cast on both sides of the panel. The catalyst may be of the azonitrile, peroxy or t-amine types. The decorative panels may be transparent, and are used for luminous signs and road signs.</p> |
