PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a transfer device in which uneven spreading of a release agent spread on a transfer belt is prevented and the removability of affixes, such as toner and paper dust is improved, and with which transferability can be kept proper. SOLUTION: The transfer device 8 for transferring a toner image formed on a peripheral surface of a photoreceptor 2 onto transfer paper has a rotating endless transfer belt 11 disposed facing the photoreceptor 2, wherein a release agent is spread on a surface of the transfer belt 11 by a release agent spreader 26 for facilitate removal of extraneous matters. The release agent is zinc stearate particles surface-treated with silica fine particles, and preferably, the release agent contain 3-20 pts.wt. of the silica fine particles with respect to 100 pts.wt. of the zinc stearate particles.
