PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for manufacturing a liquid crystal alignment film, which is a manufacturing method for obtaining a transparent liquid crystal alignment film, by applying a coating liquid composed of a liquid crystal monomer etc. and a photo-aligning compound mixed with each other to a substrate, photo-aligning it, and subsequently UV curing the liquid crystal monomer etc. SOLUTION: The method for manufacturing the liquid crystal alignment film is characterized by including: a step to form a liquid crystal layer with the coating liquid containing the liquid crystal monomer or a prepolymer thereof and the compound showing a photo-aligning property and containing no photo initiator on the transparent substrate (1); a step to form a liquid crystal alignment layer by making a polarized UV ray irradiate the liquid crystal layer so as to align the liquid crystal monomer or the prepolymer thereof (2); a step to tightly stick the photo initiator to the liquid crystal alignment layer (3); and a step to fix the liquid crystal alignment layer with UV irradiation (4).
