<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problems that wavelength dispersion causes distortion in a signal waveform under transmission in an optical multiplex communication system, transmission distance is restricted, and a signal level at a reception side after transmission is attenuated by the insertion loss of a multiplexer/branching filter and a dispersion compensating element in optical multiplex communication. <P>SOLUTION: A photonic crystal fiber (holey type) is used as the dispersion compensating element, thus suppressing the insertion loss small, and lengthening the transmission distance. And element length can be shortened, thus achieving miniaturization and integration with other devices. Also as the multiplexer/branching filter, a photonic crystal fiber (bandgap type) is used, thus suppressing the insertion loss small, and lengthening the transmission distance. The optical multiplex communication system allows the insertion loss of the dispersion compensating element and the multiplexer/branching filter to be suppressed, and the transmission distance of the communication system to be lengthened. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI |
