<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To precisely obtain the outline of a document image. <P>SOLUTION: A dot is written down on the pedestal surface of a pedestal 13 in advance. When a document 5 is placed, a document image camera 1 acquires pedestal identification information, such as the number of pixels in a dot image and the number of pixels in the investigated region of the dot image, based on the resolution of a photographed image obtained by photography. Then, the document image camera 1 identifies the region of a pedestal image based on the acquired pedestal identification information, acquires a binarized image where the region of the pedestal image is indicated in white, and clearly expresses the boundary between the region of the document image and that of a pedestal one.
