<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To optimize recording power of an optical disk device in data reading. <P>SOLUTION: A system controller 32 records test data in the test area of an optical disk 10 while changing recording power, selects recording power Po based on a γ value and a modulation factor and temporarily sets an optimum recording power Pw by Pw=ρPo.
