PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for treating a coated metal material which enables a reduction in the amount of emanation of formaldehyde from the coated metal material containing a melamine based curing agent and a reduced coated metal material. SOLUTION: The method is employed for reducing the amount of emanation of formaldehyde from the coated metal material containing the melamine based curing agent at the time of actual use by heating at a temperature lower than a reaction temperature of the melamine based curing agent during coating of a raw material.
