An automotive drive train has powered front and rear axles, one of which is permanently driven and the other selected as required. The vehicle has a transverse engine with a side-mounted gearbox and clutch with a power take-off point at the interface to the permanently driven axle. The power take-off point further has a bevelled gear that is engaged when required and coupled to a longitudinal drive shaft to the rear axle.
