The invention relates to a method for selecting a list item from a selection list, especially in an automotive information or entertainment system, whereby optionally a search list item is input in a speech mode by speech input or in a manual input mode by manual input. According to the invention, in the speech input mode, the search list item is input as a spoken word and the spoken search list item is compared with the list items of the selection list. If there is sufficient agreement between the spoken search list item and at least one of the list items from the selection list, said at least one list item is selected as the search result.
