PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming device which prevents a driving means from getting overheated without reducing the speed of the driving means to drive a deflection means to deflect light, to an unnecessary extent. SOLUTION: The image forming device controls the driving speed of a polygon motor (equivalent to the driving means) at a regular speed (S6), a second speed (S11) lower than the regular speed, a third speed (S12) lower than the second speed or to a stop (S13) in accordance with the temperature of the polygon motor detected by a thermistor: 50°C or lower (S5: NO), over 50°C and 55°C or lower (S5: YES), over 55°C and 60°C or lower (S4: YES) or over 60°C (S3: YES). Since the driving speed is varied in accordance with the actual temperature of the thermistor, the driving speed is lowered only when a speed reduction is actually required.
