PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain optical disk inclination signal detection for which the influence of defocusing is small, even at a boundary between a recorded information track and a non-recorded information track. SOLUTION: A light sensing area of a light sensing element 7 comprises regions 13, 7a to 7d. A tilt detector carries out tilt detection, based on a first difference signal, which is the difference signal between a signal obtained from the region 7a and a signal obtained from the region 7b, and a second difference signal, which is the difference signal, between a signal obtained from the region 7c and a signal obtained from the region 7d.
