PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a magnetic recording medium wherein generation of an NOx gas is suppressed even though its back coat layer contains a nitrocellulose resin. SOLUTION: The magnetic recording medium has a magnetic layer containing ferromagnetic powder and a binder on one surface of a non-magnetic substrate and the back coat layer containing carbon black, an azo-based dispersant and a binder on the other surface.
