PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To surely prevent a document from lifting, while ensuring sure positioning of the document on a contact glass. SOLUTION: This cover unit is provided with a cover body 40 for pressing a document P on contact glass 22 provided on the upper surface of a machine body 20 of a copy machine 10, turning about a hinge shaft 253 of a hinge plate member 25 provided on the machine body 20, and a pressing member 50 which is provided on the rear side of the cover body 40, for elastically pressing the document P onto the contact glass 22. The pressing member 50 comprises a pressing member body 51, of which the planar dimensions are set to be smaller than the inner dimensions of a scale 24, including a first scale 241 and a second scale 242, and a pressing spring 53 for imparting elastic force, toward the contact glass 22, to the pressing member body 51. The cover unit is also provided with a moving structure 60 for making the pressing member body 51 move, with respect to the cover body 40 by the closing of the cover body 40.
