PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus or the like capable of correcting a magnification difference between images generated in a tandem type image forming without causing image deterioration. SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus for forming a color image uses a positional deviation amount of a reference pattern between colors to correct an image forming position of the pattern and thereafter forms the image by each color of the reference pattern (S3) without using a deviation of the size of the reference pattern between the colors having been already detected (S2), detects the image deviation amount between the colors on the basis of the pattern of image forming (S4, S5), generates auxiliary pixels in the number of bits smaller than that of one pixel, determines the number of auxiliary pixels to be inserted between pixels whose image is to be formed in a main scanning line on the basis of the image deviation amount between the detected colors, and inserts the auxiliary pixels between the pixels by the determined number (S6).
