PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To inexpensively provide great volumes of magnetic disk glass substrates and magnetic disks, capable of realizing good polishing of the end surface part of the magnetic disk glass substrate, having high resistance to shocks, capable of miniaturization of an outer diameter of, e.g., 30mm, and mountable on the hard disk drive of an "LUL system". SOLUTION: The method for manufacturing the magnetic disk glass substrate includes the step of cutting a cylindrical glass base material 3 vertically to the center axis of the glass base material 3 to create a glass disk.
