PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To realize highly accurate processing, irrespective of a noise in an image or movement of an object, and to enhance robustness by minimizing an error caused by the modeling of an image matching process. SOLUTION: In an image matching apparatus, by regarding each grid point in a reference image as mass point of dynamics, and also regarding that a potential energy force produced by a pixel gradient between a pixel in each grid point of the reference image and a pixel in the grid point of an object image functions, a model generation portion 111 for generating an equation of motion to each grid point of the reference image as an image matching state transition model representing a mapping relationship between the object image and the reference image. Further, a numeric value analysis portion 112 for obtaining the mapping relationship between the grid points of the object image and the grid points of the above reference image, by solution-processing the equation of motion with a numeric value analysis processing.
