PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide colorant composition for anisotropic colorant film which can form the anisotropic colorant film with less defect and indicating high dichroism, the anisotropic colorant film formed using the colorant composition for anisotropic colorant film and a polarizing element using the anisotropic colorant film. SOLUTION: The colorant composition for anisotropic colorant film contains saccharide and colorants. The anisotropic colorant film is formed using the colorant composition for anisotropic colorant film. The polarizing element uses the anisotropic colorant film. The saccharide forms a solid solution with colorant molecules in the anisotropic colorant film, enhances a degree of association of a colorant association object, enhances molecular orientation of the colorant as a result and thereby, enhances the dichroism.
