PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a character processor in which expansion time of a character having a low cache hit rate is reduced while memory resources are suppressed. SOLUTION: When character data of a scalable form are expanded into the character data of a bit map form, bit map element character data corresponding to attribute divided constituting elements such as the left-hand side of a Chinese character, the right-hand side portion of the Chinese character, the base portion of the Chinese character and other portions of the Chinese character are cache stored in a font cache memory 106 for every attribute divided constituting element. When a need is generated to expand the character data of the scalable form including the attribute divided constituting elements which are the same as the attribute divided constituting elements that are already expanded into the element character data of the bit map form, and the bit map element character data stored in the font cache memory 106 are reused.
