PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fixing unit equipped with a cleaning mechanism which realizes good cleaning efficiency and a long cleaning life, can be embodied in a simple mechanism, and never increases the load on a heat roller etc. SOLUTION: The fixing unit is equipped with a cleaning roller 12 which is pressed against a peripheral surface of one of the heat roller 7 and a pressure roller 8 to rotate, and is characterized in that the cleaning roller 12 has a peripheral speed set to be slower than the roller 7 (8) which is pressed against and rotates in the same direction with the roller which is pressed against on the surface brought into contact.
