PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a steering device including a means to acknowledge its being positioned in the neutral, capable of accomplishing the acknowledging means in a simple construction without applying a pressing force etc. to a rack bar except when the neutral position is being acknowledged and eliminating the process to locate the rack bar in the circumferential direction at the rack bar processing stage. SOLUTION: A fit-in hole 51 is formed in the inside surface upper part of a support bushing 5 to support the rack bar 1, and a ball 52 is fitted in the hole 51 with possibility of emerging and intruding, and the rack bar 1 is furnished at the periphery with an engaging groove 50 to be engaged with the fit-in hole 51 and the ball 52. The position in the axial direction of the engaging groove 50 is set so that the steering device is in the neutral position when the groove 50 is engaged with the fit-in hole 51 and the ball 52. If the steering device is not in the neutral position, the ball 52 is well accommodated in the fit-in hole 51 and rolls on the rack bar 1 within the hole 51 together with movement of the rack bar 1.
