PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a unit for centerless grinding and a shoe for centerless grinding by which a mechanical composition such as a motor is not required, miniaturization can be realized, a workpiece support unit can be simply mounted even to a normal grinding machine almost without being restricted by a space, and a centerless grinding function can be imparted to the normal grinding machine. SOLUTION: The shoe 21 is composed of a base part 23 made of stainless steel and a micro-movement member 24 made of a piezoelectric element such as a piezo-element fixed to one side face of the base part 23 by bonding. When an AC current, in which the phase is shifted, is supplied to an electrode of the micro-movement member 24, the micro-movement member 24 is excited while generating ultrasonic micro-vibration in two directions orthogonal to each other. All points on the micro-movement member 24 are elliptically moved. All points on the shoe 21 are also elliptically moved. Grinding of a workpiece W by a grinding wheel 10a can be executed by rotating the workpiece W centering around its axis with the elliptical movement. COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI
