A method and apparatus for making a wear resistant coating on a treatment blade ( 4 ), such as a coating, doctor or creping blade, designed for the treatment of a paper web, in which method the area to be coated is subjected to a preliminary treatment before the coating process to improve the adhesion of the coating material. The adhersion surface ( 43 ) of the coating is roughened so that the roughening traces are perpendicular to the longitudinal direction of the coating blade.
