The method is for the executing of a braking operation for a motor vehicle with a service brake system and a parking brake system, whereby the braking operation is carried out when the vehicle is at rest. A check is made as to whether a longitudinal inclination angle of the vehicle value-wise is less than a predetermined threshold value, and the service brake system is operated if it is established that the longitudinal inclination angle of the motor vehicle is less than the threshold value, otherwise the parking brake unit (8,5) is operated. An independent claim is included for a brake device for a motor vehicle with an inclination angle sensor and/or longitudinal acceleration sensor to transmit signals to determine whether the longitudinal inclination angle of the vehicle is less than a threshold value, whereby the service brake is operated.
